- Indianapolis / United States : The New York Giants win the Super Bowl XLVI with 21:17 against the New England Patriots . It is her fourth Super Bowl win and her 8th championship title overall.

- Lausanne / Switzerland : The International Sports Court banned the Spaniard Alberto Contador for doping for two years. His victory at the Tour de France 2010 and the Giro d'Italia 2011 will be revoked retroactively .
- London / United Kingdom : The Diamond Jubilee of Queen . Elizabeth II is celebrated in silence, a larger celebration is planned for the summer.
