The Fichtelbergschanzen in Oberwiesenthal consist of several ski jumping hills . The facility includes three smaller jumps of category K 9, K 15, K 36 , two medium-sized jumps of category K 51, K 64 and one normal hill of category K 95. The jumps are covered with plastic mattings. The ski jump is part of the Olympic base in Oberwiesenthal. It has a measuring system for the forces during the jump.
history
The old Fichtelbergschanze was inaugurated in 1938 after two years of construction and was called Martin-Mutschmann-Schanze until 1945 . At that time the ski jump was one of the most modern in Germany . From 1972 to 1974 a new Fichtelbergschanze with steel tower was built after the old ski jump was demolished. The new K point was 90 meters. The normal hill was completely reconstructed in 1991, equipped with a glass track and plastic mattings. Between 2000 and 2002 the profile of the facility was completely reconstructed. The new K point is 95 meters. On October 3, 2004, the K 9 plastic covered hill for the youngsters was inaugurated, so that now there are jumps with the K points K 95, K 64, K 51, K 36, K 15 and K 9.
Because the condition of the Große Fichtelbergschanze had got worse and worse in recent years, planning for a modernization had started at the end of 2011. In 2013, the inrun construction was renewed for 1.8 million euros, a new inrun lane was built in and a floodlight system was installed. The renovation work started in spring 2013 and the hill was reopened with a summer Grand Prix of Nordic Combined in August 2013.
