Football League First Division 1928/29

The Football League First Division 1929/30 was the 38th season of the highest English football league . It began on August 31, 1929 and ended on May 3, 1930.

Sheffield Wednesday defended last year's title ten points ahead of Derby County and won the fourth English championship in the club's history. Both promoted Middlesbrough FC and Grimsby Town were able to hold the class; instead, Burnley FC and Everton FC had to move into the Second Division . These two clubs should be replaced in the following season by the two second division promoted FC Blackpool and FC Chelsea .

A total of 533 players were used, with Grimsby Town, Portsmouth FC and West Ham United having the fewest with 21 and AFC Sunderland with 31 the most players in league games. 133 newcomers opposed 128 footballers who last came into play in the 1929/30 season. 15 players were able to play all 42 league games of their club.

    The Sheffield Wednesday championship team

The following table lists all players who were used in a league game during the 1929/30 season for Sheffield Wednesday. It must be noted that in English football a minimum number of games is usually required in order to receive the official championship medal. Since there was uncertainty about the specific regulation before the introduction of the Premier League, all players who presumably did not receive a championship medal due to their low contribution were marked with an asterisk (*). The number of appearances and the goals scored are given in brackets, lastly the number of all first division games up to that point. The Sheffield Wednesday players had played a total of 1959 first division games at the end of the season.
