Seaton Grantland

Seaton Grantland (born June 8, 1782 in New Kent County , Virginia , †  October 18, 1864 in Milledgeville , Georgia ) was an American politician . Between 1835 and 1839 he represented the state of Georgia in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Seaton Grantland received a good primary education. After a subsequent law degree and his admission to the bar, he began to work in Milledgeville in his new profession. Politically, he initially joined the movement around President Andrew Jackson and his Democratic Party . In the state-wide held congressional elections of 1834 he was elected for the eighth mandate of Georgia in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded George Rockingham Gilmer on March 4, 1835 . After re-election in 1836, he was able to complete two terms in Congress until March 3, 1839 .

After leaving the US House of Representatives, Grantland moved to the Whig Party . In the presidential election of 1840 he was one of the party's electorate. He voted for the victorious William Henry Harrison . Then Seaton Grantland withdrew from politics. He died on October 18, 1864 on his Woodville estate near Milledgeville.
