The Col du Mollendruz is a pass in the Swiss canton of Vaud . It connects the towns of l'Isle and Le Pont , and the pass is at 1180 m.

history

At the Abri Freymond , a rock overhang in Mont-la-Ville , artifacts from the late Paleolithic to the middle Neolithic were found .

With the establishment of the Lac de Joux Abbey at the beginning of the 12th century, the pass was increasingly used, although traces of expansion and maintenance work are first documented for the year 1432. The pass connected the Premonstratensian Abbey of Lac de Joux (until 1537) and the Romainmôtier monastery, which was built around 450, and enabled both of them to grow wine on La Côte. Romainmôtier remained in the possession of the Burgundian royal family until the end of the 10th century, then moved to Cluny .

The goods of the priory formed a closed territory around the monastery from 1050 at the latest. In the middle of the 15th century it came to members of the Savoy dynasty or from their environment, the number of monks halved to ten by the 16th century. From the 16th century onwards, Morges ran timber and livestock in summer on its own property in the Vallée de Joux.

From 1849 to 1868 a passable road replaced the path to the pass, which was extended from 1871 to 1877 by the distance from the pass to Mont-la-Ville.

Lock point Col du Mollendruz

Shortly before the Second World War, a blocking point for Border Brigade 1 was set up on the pass to secure the Swiss western border .
