Schwarzenburg is a municipality in the Bern-Mittelland administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland . It was created on January 1, 2011 from the merger of the communities of Wahlern and Albligen .

Today the place is the economic and cultural center of the municipality of the same name. The secondary and high school for the former Schwarzenburg office are located here.

Schwarzenburg has long been a stage on the Way of St. James from ( Einsiedeln ) - Rüeggisberg - Freiburg - ( Romont ).

The municipality of Schwarzenburg was created on January 1, 2011 through the merger of the previously independent municipalities of Albligen and Wahlern .

Postal history

In 1841 the first post office was built in Schwarzenburg under the control of the canton. At that time, the filing holder received an annual salary of CHF 25. The first horse mail course Bern-Schwarzenburg was put into operation in 1851. The Bern-Schwarzenburg railway line was opened at the beginning of 1907. At the end of 1907 the mailbox was converted into a post office.

Schwarzenburg is more conveniently located than Wahlern, which is elevated northeast of Schwarzenburg.

Schwarzenburg has long been a stage on the Way of St. James from ( Einsiedeln ) - Rüeggisberg - Freiburg - ( Romont ). Following this path, a main road No. 183 was also created from Freiburg via St. Antoni and Riggisberg to Kirchenthurnen , which meets the main road No. 232 leading from Bern in Schwarzenburg .

In Schwarzenburg, the Bern-Schwarzenburg Railway , which came from Bern and is now operated by BLS AG , has also ended on June 1, 1907 . Today the trains of the S6 of the Bern S-Bahn run the route every half hour.
