About this picture
Location of the Weixdorf district in Dresden

Weixdorf is a district in the north of the Saxon state capital Dresden . Since 1938, the former municipality or today's village Weixdorf has been named after this district , which in addition to the Weixdorf district also includes Lausa , Friedersdorf , Gomlitz and Marsdorf and has belonged to Dresden since 1999.

geography

Weixdorf is ten kilometers north of Dresden city center, the inner old town , and is therefore already outside the Elbe valley , from the edge of which it is four kilometers away. Neighboring markings are Volkersdorf in the west, Marsdorf in the northwest, Gomlitz in the north, Lausa in the east and Klotzsche in the south. The area of Weixdorf is identical to the district of the same name and belongs to the village of Weixdorf , which also forms a statistical district of Dresden .

In neighboring Lausa are the two railway stops Weixdorf and Weixdorf Bad on the Dresden – Königsbrück railway line and, since 1929, the Weixdorf terminus of tram line 7 . Weixdorf is bounded in the west by the A 4 , in the east by the Königsbrücker Landstrasse, in the south largely by the grounds of Dresden Airport and the adjoining Klotzscher industrial area and in the north by the Schelsbach , which flows into the Lausenbach . This in turn arises in Lausa from the Ruhlandgraben and the Seifzerbach or Seifenbach, which flows through the Weixdorf district in the south. In the Weixdorf district there is also the 2.3 hectare Schelsteich natural monument . This pond is an amphibian spawning water with a natural reed and wood border and is located directly north of the airport area.

The center of Altweixdorf is located in the northeast of the district at an altitude of about 205  m above sea level. NN immediately southeast of the center of Gomlitz, which is on the other side of the Schelsbach. Build-up is only the eastern part of the district, which on a very dry and nutrient-poor sandy soils or early Pleistocene gravels lies under which the north of the Lusatian Fault on the Lausitzer plate present Granodiorit present. The rest of the corridor, especially the western part, which is already tending towards the Moritzburg small dome landscape , is undeveloped and is taken up by areas used for agriculture or nature conservation. Overall, the development is quite loose and shows a village or settlement character.

history

The first documented settlement of the area around Weixdorf is attributed to the late Bronze Age and thus took place over 3000 years ago. In the middle of the Weixdorfer corridor, among other things, hearth pits and ceramic remains were recovered, which are the remains of a Bronze Age settlement.

Weixdorf itself was first mentioned in 1350 when there were the spellings "Wigensdorf", "Wignansdorf desolata " and "Wignandisdorf". In the further course of the 14th century, the place is referred to as "Wynandisdorf", "Wygandisdorf", "Wynansdorf", "Wickanzdorf" and "Wignandistorf", "Wigmanstorff" was added in 1445/47. Apparently, the writers of this evidence used various second parts of the personal name as a basis, namely "-nand", "-and" and "-man". The place name, which comes from the German language , means "village of a Wīgnand " and probably refers to a locator . The mentions in the middle of the 16th century as "Weickmansdorff", "Weikersdorf", "Weicksdorff" and "Weickelstorff" show on the one hand the diphthong "ei" derived from the "ī" and on the other hand show the hardened final at the end of the first syllable ; In addition, the unstressed second syllable "-er" has already been dropped. Later, "ks" gave way to the spelling with "x". In 1791 the place was called "Weixdorf, or Weickersdorf".

In the center of Altweixdorf , which was created as a square village, several historical farms have been preserved to this day . Throughout its entire history, Weixdorf was administratively part of the Dresden office or administration , and part of the Dresden Bridge Office . It was parish to Lausa . The manorial rule was exercised initially by Jacobus von Naundorf, from 1456 by the von Ziegelheim family and around 1600 by the von Zschieren family. Then it was under the command of the Hermsdorf manor until the 19th century and remained relatively insignificant until this time. Until around 1840, the Seifzerteich, which was first named as Weicksdorff pond in the 16th century, also existed near the current field boundary to Klotzsche . In addition, the Rähnitzer Mühlweg ran from the Rähnitzer Flur to the castle mill in Hermsdorf, where the Wilschdorf farmers also had their grain ground due to the compulsory meal .

As a result of the railway connection completed in 1884, the population grew strongly and the first small businesses settled. Weixdorf, like its neighboring towns, now developed into a residential suburb of Dresden. On July 1, 1914 Weixdorf, the somewhat larger church village Lausa and Gomlitz merged to form the municipality of Lausa . Since the name Weixdorf, unlike Lausa, was of non-Slavic origin, the municipality of Lausa was renamed Weixdorf in 1938 during the Nazi era . With this, a rather insignificant part of the city became the namesake of a municipality for reasons of language policy. An incision for the district came in 1957 as part of the expansion of Dresden Airport. At that time, a third of the Weixdorf district, which comprised roughly the middle of the district, was added to the neighboring Klotzsche. Today the northern part of the runway is located here. As part of the village of the same name, the Weixdorf district was incorporated into Dresden on January 1, 1999 .
