Mode and general

The championship in the 1st division was contested with 10 teams, each of which met four times during the entire season. Salzburger Austria was able to become Austrian football champions for the first time . As a champion you took part in the qualification for the 1995 Champions League , completed it successfully and thus reached the main round. Vizemeister Austria was allowed to take part in the 1995 European Cup , where the team reached the round of 16 thanks to the cup victory. Rapid as well as FC Tirol Innsbruck, which emerged from FC Wacker Innsbruck, now playing in the regional league, represented Austrian football in the 1995 UEFA Cup ; Sturm reached the sixteenth finals, Rapid made it to the last sixteen. The last place in the championship had to be relegated to the Wiener Sport-Club. For financial reasons, the club even had to be downgraded to the regional league. The place in the 1st division with the Linz ASK replaced by the champions of the 2nd division in the following season. In addition, a relegation was held between the penultimate of the 1st division and the runner-up in the 2nd division. Here the FC Linz prevailed and thus also rose.

useful information

SV Austria Salzburg was able to become Austrian champions for the first time this season, the duel with the former role model and this year's pursuer, Wiener Austria, he could clearly win: in four games there were four wins for Salzburg, the last two matches against the Viennese violets even ended 4-0 and 6-0 for Salzburg. Qualification for the Champions League was achieved with two wins over Maccabi Haifa, and in the group stage they only narrowly failed in third place on promotion to AEK Athens, AC Milan and Ajax Amsterdam. In terms of sport, FC Admira / Wacker also impressed by reaching the UEFA Cup round of 16 over AS Cannes, where they failed due to Juventus Turin. Runner-up Austria was eliminated in the European Cup with two draws against Chelsea and only in the second round. This season, numerous clubs caused a sensation with their financial relegation. Tirol patron and board member Klaus Mair was arrested for embezzling half a billion schillings. Rapid, over-indebted with over 100 million schillings, was taken over by Bank Austria, while the sports club, which was in the red with 30 million schillings, was forcibly transferred to the regional league.

Others

In Germany, there was an automatic ban for red cards based on FIFA instructions, while the ÖFB wanted to stipulate a transition period for a year, but this was rejected by FIFA.
