Burtscheid im Hunsrück is a municipality in the district of Bernkastel-Wittlich in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Verbandsgemeinde Thalfang am Erbeskopf .

history

The name Burtscheid is the Germanization of the Celtic bor (uo) cetum with the components: Borvo "warm spring", also God (see also Worms , Wormerich and the French Bourbon ) and caito , ceto "forest" (Breton koat , koet , Welsh coed "forest")

In the Middle Ages , Burtscheid belonged to the Thalfang mark with its seat at Dhronecken Castle . In 1794 the left bank of the Rhine , including Burtscheid, was annexed by French revolutionary troops . Due to a law of March 26, 1798, the French repealed feudal rights in the region. After the end of French rule, the place came to the Kingdom of Prussia in 1815 . Since 1946 the place has been part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate.
