The Drum naţional 1 ( Romanian for "National Highway 1" short DN1 ) is a national road in Romania .

The road begins in the capital Bucharest and first runs, at the same time as Europastraße 60 , four lanes expanded north to Ploieşti , leads from there to the valley of Prahova , narrows behind Breaza on two tracks and runs further over Sinaia Azuga and Predeal via the Predeal Pass to Brașov (Kronstadt) . From there it continues in a west-northwest direction via Făgăraş (Fogarasch) , meets the Drum național 7 at Tălmaciu (Talmesch) and leads to Hermannstadt (Sibiu). From there it leads, at the same time as DN7 and European route 68 as well as European route 81 and accompanied by the Autostradă 1 , the river Mureş (Marosch) along to Sebeş (Mühlbach) , where it separates again from the DN7. The DN1 runs, at the same time as European route 81, in a northerly direction via Alba Iulia (Karlsburg) and Turda to Cluj-Napoca , turns again to the west and continues, at the same time as European route 60, via Huedin and Aleşd to Oradea (Großwardein) . From there it leads straight to the European route 79 to the Romanian-Hungarian border near Borș , where it merges into the Hungarian 42-es főút .
