The Gambrinus League 2008/09 was the 16th season of the top Czech league in football . It took place from August 2, 2008 to May 30, 2009 with a winter break from December 1, 2008 to February 20, 2009.
16 teams played against each other twice on a total of 30 match days, divided into a first half and a second half.
Defending champion Slavia Prague won the Czech championship for the third time. Slavia, like second-placed Sparta, took part in the Champions League . Cup winners FK Teplice , SK Sigma Olmütz and Slovan Liberec qualified for the Europa League .
FC Tescoma Zlín and FK Viktoria Žižkov relegated to the Druhá fotbalová liga .
