Jackson County is a county in the state of Michigan in the United States . The county seat is Jackson .

The county is located in the south of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan, about 50 km to the south and southwest from Ohio and Indiana , about 75 km to the southeast from Lake Erie , one of the 5 Great Lakes , and has an area of 1,875 square kilometers, of which 44 square kilometers Are water surface. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Livingston County , Washtenaw County , Lenawee County , Hillsdale County , Calhoun County , Eaton County, and Ingham County .
history
Jackson County was formed in 1832 from parts of Washtenaw County and Free Territory. It was named after Andrew Jackson , the seventh US president .
The county is one of the so-called Cabinet Counties because it was named after a member of the Cabinet of President Andrew Jackson, like some others .

As of the 2000 census , Jackson County had 158,422 people in 58,168 households and 40,833 families. The population density was 87 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 88.54 percent white, 7.92 percent African American, 0.40 percent Native American, 0.53 percent Asian, 0.04 percent from the Pacific island area and 0.83 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.74 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.20 percent of the population.
Of the 58,168 households, 33.5 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them. 53.8 percent were married couples living together, 12.0 percent were single mothers, and 29.8 percent were non-families. 24.6 percent were single households and 9.6 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.55 and the average family size was 3.03.
25.6 percent of the population were under 18 years old. 8.1 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 30.4 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 23.0 percent between 45 and 64 years of age, and 12.9 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 104.2 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 103.7 men.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 43,171 , and the median income for a family is $ 50,970. Males had a median income of $ 38,919 versus $ 26,448 for females. The per capita income was $ 20,171. 6.5 percent of families and 9.0 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
