Karl (in Eifeler dialect: Koahl ) is a municipality in the district of Bernkastel-Wittlich in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Verbandsgemeinde Wittlich-Land .

geography

The place is in the Eifel . 61.8 percent of the district area is forested. About nine kilometers north is Manderscheid .

history

From 1794 the place Karl was under French rule, in 1815 the place was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna . Since 1946 it has been part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate .

Municipal council

The council in Karl consists of six council members, who in the local elections on May 26, 2019 in a majority vote were elected, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Culture and sights

In the middle of the village there is a beautiful wayside shrine . In the old chapel there is a rococo columned altar from the end of the 17th century.

Beyond the Lieser at the level of the Karl-Kaufmann Bridge are a few remains of the former Biederburg halfway up the slope.
