Randolph County is a county in the state of North Carolina in the United States . The county seat is Asheboro , named after Governor Samuel Ashe .
geography
The county is located just west of the geographic center of North Carolina and has an area of 2046 square kilometers, of which 7 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Guilford County , Alamance County , Chatham County , Moore County , Montgomery County, and Davidson Counties .
Randolph County is divided into 22 townships : Asheboro, Archdale, Back Creek, Brower, Cedar Grove, Coleridge, Columbia, Concord, Farmer, Franklinville, Grant, Level Cross, Liberty, New Hope, New Market, Pleasant Grove, Providence, Randleman, Richland, Tabernacle, Trinity and Union.
history
Randolph County was formed in 1779 from parts of Guilford County. It was named after Peyton Randolph , the first president of the Continental Congress .
A total of 20 buildings and sites in the county are registered in the National Register of Historic Places (as of March 15, 2018).

According to the 2000 census , Randolph County had 130,454 people in 50,659 households and 37,335 families. The population density was 64 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 89.20 percent white, 5.63 percent African American, 0.45 percent Native American, 0.64 percent Asian, 0.02 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 3.01 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.06 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 6.63 percent of the population.
Of the 50,659 households, 33.7 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them. 59.1 percent of these were married couples living together, 10.2 percent were single mothers and 26.3 percent were non-families. 22.5 percent were single households and 8.6 percent had people 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.55 and the average family size was 2.97 people.
25.0 percent of the population were under 18 years old. 8.0 percent were between 18 and 24 years old, 31.3 percent between 25 and 44 years old, 23.5 percent between 45 and 64, and 12.1 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For all females there were 97.8 males. For all women aged 18 or over there were 95.4 men.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 38,348, and the median income for a family is $ 44,369. Males had a median income of $ 30,575 versus $ 22,503 for females. The per capita income was $ 18,236. 9.1 percent of the population and 6.8 percent of families are below the poverty line. 11.6 percent of them are children and adolescents under 18 years of age and 11.5 percent are 65 years of age or older.
