Robert Lee Moore (politician)

Robert Lee Moore (born November 27, 1867 in Scarboro , Screven County , Georgia , †  January 14, 1940 in Statesboro , Georgia) was an American politician . Between 1923 and 1925 he represented the state of Georgia in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Robert Moore attended public schools in his home country including the Scarboro Academy . He then continued his education at Georgia Military College in Milledgeville and Moore's Business University in Atlanta . After a subsequent law degree at the University of Georgia in Athens and his admission to the bar in 1890, he began to work in Statesboro in his new profession. There he also embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party .

Moore was Mayor of Statesboro in 1906 and 1907. Between 1913 and 1916, he served as a prosecutor in the Georgia Central Judicial District. In the 1922 congressional elections he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the first constituency of Georgia , where he succeeded James W. Overstreet on March 4, 1923 . Since he was not nominated for re-election by his party in 1924, he was only able to complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1925 .

After his time in the US House of Representatives, Robert Moore retired from politics. In the following years he worked again as a lawyer. He died on January 14, 1940 in Statesboro, where he was also buried.
