history

In 1303/1304 the place was first mentioned by name in the Würzburger Lehenbuch as Sahsen . The place name is based on a plural form of the tribe name Sachse . As with the other places with this name, it was a forced settlement of Saxons, which was carried out by Berowelf , Bishop of Würzburg, at the end of the 8th century.

Saxony was part of the Lichtenau rule of the Lords of Heideck , who sold it to the imperial city of Nuremberg in 1406 . As early as 1409, the city sold the Lichtenau rule and thus also Saxony to the Rummel patrician family due to the ongoing disputes with the principality of Ansbach . They sold the place to the "Reiche Almosen" in Nuremberg, which had been the sole landlord in the place since 1472 . The sovereign was the imperial city of Nuremberg, which in 1666 refused an exchange of territory offered by the principality of Ansbach.

In the Salbuch of the Nuremberg nursing office Lichtenau from 1515 23 properties and a shepherd's house are given for Saxony. Five of these properties were handicrafts . In the official description of the Lichtenau nursing office from 1748, the place is part of the main team of Saxony. There were 29 subject families, all of whom were Nuremberg.

At the end of the 18th century there were 28 properties in Saxony. The high court and the village and community rulership was exercised by the Lichtenau nursing office in the imperial city of Nuremberg. The landlords were the imperial city of Nuremberg (Lichtenau nursing office: 3 empty houses ; state alms office: 12 goods, 1 good with baking rights, 5 small goods, 6 empty houses) and the Brandenburg-Ansbach court box office in Ansbach (1 parish court). In addition to the property, there was also the church and communal buildings (school house, ox shepherd's house, cow shepherd's house, house number 15).

In 1806 Saxony became part of the Kingdom of Bavaria . As part of the municipal edict , the tax district of Saxony was formed in 1808 , to which Herpersdorf , Langenloh , Milmersdorf , Rutzendorf , Rutzenmühle , Saxony, Unterrottmannsdorf , Volkersdorf , Weidenmühle , Zandt and Zandtmühle belonged. The rural community of Saxony was founded in 1810 and was congruent with the tax district of Saxony. It was subject to the Heilsbronn Regional Court in administration and jurisdiction and the Windsbach Rent Office in the financial administration . With the second community edict (1818) the rural community of Saxony was split into

  • Rural community Herpersdorf with Langenloh;
  • Rural community of Saxony with Milmersdorf;
  • Rural community Unterrottmannsdorf with Weidenmühle, Zandt and Zandtmühle;
  • Rural community of Volkersdorf with Rutzendorf and Rutzenmühle.

From 1862 to 1879 Saxony was administered by the Heilsbronn district office, since 1880 by the Ansbach district office (renamed the Ansbach district in 1938 ) and the Heilsbronn rent office (1920–1929: Heilsbronn tax office , from 1929: Ansbach tax office ). The jurisdiction remained until 1879 the District Court Heilsbronn, 1880-1956 District Court Heilsbronn , since 1956 district court Ansbach . In 1961 the municipality of Lichtenau had an area of 3.226 km².
