The 13th IBU Summer Biathlon World Championships took place from September 22nd to 28th, 2008 in Haute-Maurienne . Medals were awarded in four individual disciplines for men and women, as well as in a mixed relay competition. Two of the disciplines, a sprint and a pursuit race, for both women and men, took place in cross- country running and on roller skis . The relay competition was held in the roller-ski discipline. Almost simultaneously, usually only a few minutes apart, the Junior World Championships in the respective disciplines took place. While all four titles in cross-country skiing were won by Russian athletes, the titles in the roller-skiing competition both went to France for men and Slovenia for women. The relay race was won by France, which, with three-time world champion Simon Fourcade, was also the most successful athlete at the Games. All winners of the sprint races could also win the pursuit races, so Jekaterina Sidorenko , Teja Gregorin and Alexei Katrenko became double world champions. The Moldovan Natalja Levtschenkowa was the only athlete to start in all five possible competitions. She always placed in the top six and won the bronze medal in the roller ski pursuit race.
