This article deals with the Austrian men's soccer championship of the 1982/83 season. For the Austrian women's football championship of the 1982/83 season, see Austrian Women's Football Championship 1982/83 .
The Austrian Football Championship 1982/83 was organized by the Austrian Football Association . The single-track 2nd division served as a substructure for the 1st division . The third performance level was the Regionalliga West (Salzburg, Tyrol, Vorarlberg) and the regional leagues of Vienna, Lower Austria, Burgenland, Salzburg, Tyrol, Vorarlberg, Carinthia, Upper Austria and Styria.
At a meeting of the gaming committee on February 17, 1981 in Graz, eight of the ten clubs had spoken out in favor of an increase to 16 clubs (only the two Austria, namely Vienna and Salzburg, were against). On June 28, 1981 there was an extraordinary general meeting of the ÖFB in Vienna, which however clearly spoke out against these plans or even those for 1981/82 (see comments in the article on the championship 1981/82). However, ultimately the reformers (ÖFB presidium meeting of May 16, 1982) prevailed, from this season onwards, 16 clubs were played. This system held until and including the game year 1984/85, then a new format with 12 clubs in the first and 12 clubs in the second division with a was ground through and subsequently a master play-off , a Middle Play Off and a lower Play Off introduced . From 1993/94 they returned to the ten league (from then on the 2nd division was played with 16 clubs, before continuing there from 1998/99 with 10 clubs). Championship course
The championship began on the weekend of August 20th to 22nd, after 15 rounds (November 27th) it went into the winter break, and continued on 19th and 20th. March and on 24./25. June the last round was played. Rapid had already led four points ahead of Austria, gave up a point with the 0-0 at SK Sturm Graz on April 23, but even more surprising came the 1: 2 defeat at SC Neusiedl am See on 7 May , which is why the The table was only 35 to 34 points. With the 3-0 win in the replay against Austria on May 12th (please see "Additional Notes") there was "some space" again, but the entire lead with the 1-1 home win against S SW Innsbruck on May 15th May and the 3-0 defeat at ASK Linz on May 28th were wasted. In the match in Linz, Hans Krankl also suffered a collateral ligament tear in his left knee and was unable to play the remaining four matches. From this point on there was a head-to-head race between the two big Viennese clubs, all of which won their other matches and thus also in the last round. For both teams there were duels with a representative from Burgenland on June 25th. Rapid competed in the Lindenstadion in Eisenstadt - and it was won 4-0, which meant the 27th championship title (and the double). Austria had the slightly easier task with their home game against SC Neusiedl, they won a clear 8-0 victory (although Felix Gasselich did not accommodate a penalty - and if too many more chances had not been missed against the inferior guests, even that would have been Title can be achieved). From Austria's point of view, the championship was probably not won because against the rivals Rapid with the 0-0 in the 2nd round in the Hanappi Stadium (August 27th) and the 3-0 home mentioned above, only one point succeeded.
Third-placed SSW Innsbruck was already far behind, but thanks to the better goal difference (even if Sturm Graz won at Wiener Sport-Club , there was a 2: 2), a narrow defeat at SK Austria Klagenfurt (result 3: 1 for the Carinthians).
In the relegation battle, FC Union Wels was able to save itself in the last round with a 3-1 win over LASK, while First Vienna FC 1894, who had been placed third from last before the last round , suffered a 7-0 debacle at the Grazer AK .
statistics
After the fall, Rapid had led with 25 points ahead of Austria (23) and Innsbruck (20). A quartet with Wels and Simmering (9 points each) and Neusiedl and Vienna (6 each) was in the last place. Exactly the other way around, Austria 25, Rapid 23, was the spring table in which Simmering only got two points and had no win.
Rapid leads the home table with 26 points ahead of SV Austria Salzburg (24); Simmering was the last to reach 7 points. Away the ranking was Austria with 24 ahead of Rapid with 22. Eisenstadt's balance sheet is quite contrary in these specifications: 13 home points meant the penultimate, but 16 away points meant third place. Five clubs remained without a win away from home: there were 4 draws for LASK, Neusiedl and Simmering, 3 for Wels and 2 for Simmering.
Further remarks
The 158th “Wiener Derby”, which brought Rapid a 1-0 away win on March 26th, was repeated on May 12th and now brought Rapid a 3-0 win. Rudolf Weinhofer took part in the Hütteldorfer without authorization (as it was said, because of an "organizational mistake with which Rapid had nothing to do")
Relegated 1. Simmeringer SC was blocked with effect from June 27, after the end of the championship, because of non-payment of the transfer fee for Heinrich Strasser, acquired from FC Admira / Wacker , by the responsible Senate II of the ÖFB , which was practically only symbolic
