Birken is a court in Radevormwald in the Oberbergischer Kreis in the administrative district of Cologne in North Rhine-Westphalia ( Germany ).

Location and description

The birch court

Birken lies in the north of Radevormwald on the border with Ennepetal . The neighboring towns are Remlingrade , Sondern , Ümminghausen and Jakobsholt . The place can be reached via the state road  130, which joins the federal road 483 near Freudenberg . Today Birken consists of an agricultural property with an attached riding stables.

The Remlingrader Bach rises to the west of the Hofschaft .

history

The place was mentioned for the first time in 1547 , namely "Berke is mentioned in the lists of the Bergisch Spann- und Schüppendienste among the spiritual goods of the parish Radevormwald."

The spelling of the first mention was Berke .

In 1815/16 the place had twelve inhabitants. In 1832 the place belonged to the parish Remlingrade of the rural outskirts of the mayor's office Radevormwald . The place, categorized as a hamlet according to the statistics and topography of the administrative district of Düsseldorf , had three residential buildings and an agricultural building at that time. At that time, eleven residents lived in the village, all of whom were Protestant. In 1888, three houses with 27 inhabitants are listed in the community dictionary of the Rhine Province .

The local circular route A6 runs through birch trees, the neighboring stations of the route are Remlingrade and Oberönkfeld .
