List of seaside resorts, health resorts and recreational areas in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania

In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania there are numerous health resorts , seaside resorts and resorts , especially on the Baltic Sea coast and in the Mecklenburg Lake District . As of August 2018, there are 65 main locations that have been awarded one of these ratings. Many of them are the main tourist destinations in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .

A total of 27 of the places with the rating are in the district of Vorpommern-Rügen, 13 in the district of Vorpommern-Greifswald, eleven of them are in the Mecklenburg Lake District, seven in the Rostock district, four in the urban area of ​​Rostock, three in the northwest Mecklenburg district and two in the Ludwigslust district -Parchim.

Seaside resorts on the Baltic Sea

Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania has Germany's longest coast with over 1900 km. Part of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania coast with its historic seaside resorts is also advertised as the “German Riviera ”.

In terms of landscape, the Baltic Sea resorts of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania are mostly characterized by fine sandy beaches that alternate with steep coasts. In the coastal hinterland, lagoon-like bay landscapes , small rivers and lakes are characteristic, often in the immediate vicinity of the Baltic Sea. From an architectural point of view, the glamorous bathing architecture is particularly characteristic of the historic seaside resorts, while cottages and captains' houses with thatched roofs are common for the smaller fishing villages .

In the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the law on recognition as a health resort and recreation area (Kurortgesetz) applies . In this law, Section 3 defines the different types of health resorts, with a distinction being made between seaside resorts and seaside health resorts . The recognition expires after 30 years. Historic seaside resorts in Pomerania

Originally there were other seaside resorts east of Ahlbeck on Usedom on the Pomeranian coast . As part of the German Eastern Territories, these fell to Poland after 1945 in the course of Germany's defeat in World War II .

Criteria for awarding a rating

In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania the law on recognition as a health resort and recreation area (Kurortgesetz) applies . In this law, Section 3 defines the different types of health resorts, with a distinction being made between seaside resorts and seaside health resorts . The recognition expires after 30 years. It can be extended upon request.

Legal requirements for a seaside resort in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania:

• Location on the seashore; the center of the village must not be more than two kilometers from the coastline
• climatic properties and air quality that are monitored and that support the possibilities of recovery and relaxation
• at least one doctor's office
• Perfect bathing water quality on a well-kept and guarded bathing beach that is monitored
• Beach promenades, parks that are sufficiently undisturbed by road traffic as well as beach or landscape paths, opportunities for games and sports

The prerequisites for a sea ​​spa are defined as follows:

• Location on the seashore; the center of the village must not be more than two kilometers from the coastline
• Scientifically recognized and therapeutically applicable climate that has proven itself through experience and a corresponding air quality that is monitored
• at least one practice of a spa doctor
• Facilities for dispensing and using the cure products
