Previous model Nissan Skyline  GT-R

The Nissan GT-R is a 2 + 2-seater sports coupé produced by the Japanese car manufacturer Nissan since December 2007 and the successor to the Nissan Skyline GT-R R34.

history

The series GT-R was preceded by a study of the same name shown at the Tokyo Motor Show at the end of 2001 and a prototype at the end of 2005. In contrast to its predecessors, the GT-R (R35) is for the first time not only marketed in individual markets such as Japan and Great Britain, but also in countries with left-hand drive . The nickname "Godzilla" (spoken in Japanese "gojira") is translated as "King of the Monsters" and is intended to illustrate the principle of the wolf in sheep's clothing. Compared with sports cars of this class, the Nissan GT-R can stand out from other manufacturers in terms of performance and acquisition costs.

The car celebrated its premiere at the Tokyo Motor Show 2007. As the successor to the Nissan Skyline GT-R (R34), the GT-R is no longer a descendant of the Skyline series, but an independent model within the Nissan product range.

The GT-R was available in the United States on February 17, 2008, starting at $ 70,000.

The GT-R (81,800 euros), GT-R Black Edition (85,200 euros) and GT-R Premium Edition (83,500 euros) versions were available for launch.

Engine and technology

Rear view

The GT-R is powered by a 3.8 liter V6 engine that is charged by two turbochargers. It achieves an output of initially 357 kW (485 hp); After 2010 or the 2011 model year, it was slightly revised and developed 390 kW (530 PS). Thanks to further modifications, the performance was slightly increased several times up to model year 2016; it is currently 419 kW (570 PS) and the " Nismo " version is 441 kW (600 PS). Nismo is the motorsport division of Nissan.

Like its predecessor models, the GT-R has all-wheel drive, but with new, patented technology. The vehicle usually drives with rear-wheel drive and, as with the Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R, only shifts the front wheels when there is too much slip. In an effort not to let the weight increase too much, the all-wheel steering "S-HICAS" of the predecessor was dropped in the GT-R.

Thanks to the transaxle design (motor on the front axle, gearbox on the rear axle), an advantageous weight distribution is achieved in the Nissan GT-R, which is particularly noticeable in handling and cornering speeds.

At the beginning of 2009, Nissan introduced the “SpecV” version of the GT-R, initially only for sale in Japan. Sales began on February 2nd at seven selected dealers. A total of 40 were planned for Europe. The maximum power remained unchanged, the torque experiences an increase of 20 Nm for a maximum of 80 seconds. The SpecV is around 80 kg lighter than the standard version thanks to various measures to reduce weight. Various attachments, including the racing bucket seats, are made of CFRP . The rear seats have been removed. The braking system has ceramic brake discs and the vehicle has lighter wheels. The exhaust system is made of titanium. In addition, the chassis has been reinforced, but is no longer three-stage adaptive as in the standard GT-R. The edition of this series was limited and the vehicle cost the equivalent of 149,990 euros.

Facelift

Since October 19, 2010 there has been a revised GT-R for the 2011 model year. The model received new LED daytime running lights at the front and a striking rear diffuser at the rear. The chassis geometry and the damper characteristics have been changed. In addition, the body has been further stiffened, which brings even more stability in the curves. From then on, the engine had 390 kW (530 hp) at 6400 rpm. The torque has also increased to 612 Nm at 3200 to 6400 rpm.

For the 2012 model year, the output was increased to 404 kW (550 PS). Another minor revision followed for the 2013 model year: the engine, which still delivers 404 kW (550 hp), has been optimized, and the chassis has been redesigned. The price was now 96,900 euros.

In autumn 2013 the GT-R was revised again. The output of 404 kW (550 PS) remained unchanged, the response behavior and the torque in the middle and upper speed range were improved. In addition, the body rigidity has been increased and the center of gravity has been lowered.

There were some new features for the 2014 model year. The GT-R received LED headlights that automatically adjust to the speed and also provide better illumination when cornering. In addition, the chassis and steering have been revised in terms of stability and comfort, and the stabilizers and dampers have been retuned. The center of gravity has been lowered again with the new model year. The rear lights were given a new graphic in the form of four LED rings. A base price of 96,900 euros was specified for Germany.

Since August 2014, a sports version of the Nissan GT-R has been offered by Nissan's in-house motorsport department Nismo , the output of which has been increased to 441 kW (600 hp).

Performance

Nissan reported a lap time of 7: 26.7 minutes on the Nürburgring - Nordschleife for the first version with 485 hp . After the first modification in 2011, the GT-R developed 530 hp; this model lapped the Nürburgring-Nordschleife in a confirmed 7: 24.22 min.

Another revision followed in 2012: by optimizing the V6 twin-turbo engine, which now has an output of 404 kW (550 hp), acceleration from standstill to 100 km / h could be improved by a tenth of a second to 2.7 s, according to the factory. With these measures, the current model can circumnavigate the Nordschleife in 7: 18.60 minutes.

The first Nissan GT-R with 485 hp circled the series-owned test track in the British car magazine Top Gear , an airfield course at the Dunsfold Aerodrome in the county of Surrey , faster than a Chevrolet Corvette C6 Z06 , Ford GT , Porsche Carrera GT and a Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 .

The sprint to 100 km / h for the Euro version of the current GT-R with 570 hp takes 2.8 seconds, according to the factory. With the GT-R Nismo with 600 hp it is also 2.8 seconds.

The top speed of the current GT-R is given by Nissan at 315 km / h.

Racing

In 2008, Nissan announced that the new GT-R would replace the Nissan 350Z in the Japanese Super GT Championship, even though the 350Z had only been in the GT500 class for a year. Five different GT-Rs have been announced for the start of the 2008 season. Nismo had two versions in use: the Xanavi Nismo GT-R, which was presented on December 2, 2007 at its own Nismo Festival at Fuji Speedway , and the Motul Autech GT-R. The Yellow Hat YMS Tomica GT-R was used in the Hasemi Motorsport racing team, the Calsonic Impul GT-R for the Impul team and the Advan Clarion GT-R for Kondo Racing. The vehicles have been heavily modified compared to the production version. A special modification was the removal of the all-wheel drive and the replacement of the entire engine. Due to the regulations in the GT500 class, Nissan decided to use the old 4.5-liter V8 engine (VK45DE from the Super GT Nissan 350Z) with around 330 kW and converted the racing cars to rear-wheel drive . The complete drive system was taken from the old Skyline (Super GT) GT-R. Nissan could not win an overall title with the GT-R in either 2008 or 2009.

In 2010, a completely revised GT-R was used, which took into account the demands of the FIA to reduce performance. The near-series 3.4-liter V8 engine VRH34A was used. Furthermore, a total of only three vehicles in the GT500 class started.

There was also a GT1 racing version of the Nissan GT-R that took part in the FIA GT1 World Championship .
