politics

Community representation

Of the nine seats in the municipal council, the community of voters WIR has five seats since the 2008 local elections and the CDU four.

coat of arms

Blazon : “Divided humiliated by a flat golden hill of green and red. Above, growing out of the hill, three golden reed stalks, the seed heads of which are inclined to the left, below the silver Holstein nettle leaf. "

The coat of arms of Rethwisch is mainly related to the name of the community. The green shield color refers to the second part of the name (-wisch = meadow), to the first the three stalks shown “in the state of maturity”. Reet is still a popular building material for attractive and heat-protecting house roofing. The municipality attaches particular importance to its location in what is now Holstein. Therefore the nettle leaf , the symbol of this area, has become an almost oversized part of the coat of arms.

economy

Most of the area of the municipality is used for agriculture. The townscape is shaped by a large-scale cement industry, most of which is located in the Rethwisch municipality. The cement works is located in the neighboring municipality of Lägerdorf . Rethwisch is the location of a primary school for the communities of Neuenbrook and Rethwisch.
