coat of arms

Sulzbach coat of arms
Blazon : "In a split shield above in gold a red mythical animal with a wolf's head and wide open wings, covered with a black wolf hook , below in blue eleven silver organ pipes."
Justification of the coat of arms: The mythical animal refers to the former affiliation to the Wild and Rhine Counties and corresponds to the earlier court seal of the Rhaunen High Court . The organ pipes are reminiscent of the well-known Stumm family of organs from the Sulzbach community.

Evangelical Church and Stumm Organ

A working example of the Stumm'schen organs is in the Evangelical village church . It is the last copy from Johann Michael Stumm, the founder of the organ building dynasty, which he gave to his home village. Even today, concerts are held there regularly, organized by the Stummorgelverein Sulzbach.

Hypocritical home

The historic market square Heuchelheim is part of the Sulzbach district, at the crossroads of an ancient trade route from the Glan to the Moselle . One branch of this route, which has been used since the Bronze Age , was expanded in Roman times and was still used in the Middle Ages , leads via Rhaunen and Büchenbeuren to Enkirch , while the other ran directly over the Idarkopf to the Sirona sanctuary in Hochscheid , and finally to antiquity in the Zolleiche district To merge with Ausoniusstrasse .

The Heuchelheim market was the location of a Celtic- Roman cultural site, which later served as the Thingplatz of the medieval high court of Rhaunen .

Economy and Infrastructure

The formerly agricultural place has a high number of out-commuters. Tourism (holidays in the country, holidays on the farm) and slate processing in neighboring Bundenbach are essential . In the Kalmersbach district, right on the boundary between Sulzbach and Bundenbach, there was a slate quarry with underground mining. Today imported slate, mainly from Spain, is processed there on a large scale.
