The Toyota Auris was a passenger car made by the Japanese manufacturer Toyota . It was the successor to the Toyota Corolla, which had been built for 40 years, and a representative of the compact class . The successor model has been marketed again under the name Corolla since 2019.
In terms of size, the Auris was placed between the Yaris small car and the Avensis mid-range car .
The name Auris is derived from the Latin name aurum for 'gold' and was developed by the naming agency Nomen International Germany . In non-European countries, instead of the Auris , the Corolla was often offered, sometimes the Auris under the name Corolla . The name change was mainly for marketing reasons, because surveys found that the name Corolla was often associated with an unattractive, old-fashioned and undesirable car by European consumers. Due to falling sales figures, the Toyota compact car will be sold again as Corolla from 2019 .
According to Toyota, the Auris was the best-selling hybrid electric vehicle in Europe in 2014 (as of 2015). The hybrid share in the Auris was over 50 percent in 2018.

The Auris (factory code: E150) was presented at the Bologna Motor Show in December 2006 and was available on the German market from March 3, 2007. The three-door version followed in July 2007.
The first generation was built for the European market in addition to the two Toyota plants in Turkey ( Adapazarı : TMMT ) and Great Britain (Burnaston, Derbyshire), where the predecessor Corolla was also manufactured, also in Japan ( Kanegasaki ). The design was created in Toyota’s European design studios in France. The body achieved a C w value of 0.29. It was also extensively insulated against noise. The chassis has a twist beam at the rear and a multi-link axle on the 2.2 D-CAT . It is steered with a speed-dependent electromechanical power steering.
In Japan, the Auris was also offered in a luxury version called the Blade . The Blade has the basic body of the Auris , but differs from it by a modified front (including wider Xenon) and rear (in the tailgate widened LED - taillights , revised rear window). In addition, the interior has been upgraded through the use of Alcantara (including on the top of the dashboard). The blade is powered by a 2.4-liter four-cylinder that develops 123 kW (167 hp). In addition, the Blade Master is a version with a 3.5-liter V6 (2GR-FE) that has an output of 206 kW (280 hp) and a torque of up to 344 Nm.

- 4 out of 5 stars for child occupant protection (37 points)
- 3 out of 4 stars for pedestrian protection (21 points)
Facelift and full hybrid
Toyota presented a full hybrid version of the Toyota Auris at the IAA in Frankfurt in September 2009 , the Auris HSD (for Hybrid Synergy Drive ), which was available in Europe from September 2010 under the name Auris Hybrid . According to the manufacturer, it accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 10 seconds and can be driven in four different modes (normal, ECO, POWER and EV mode) - in the latter, purely electric operating mode, up to 2 kilometers at a maximum of 50 km / h. In mixed operation, the CO 2 emissions were below 100 g / km.
In March 2010, the Auris received a facelift in advance, which can be recognized, among other things, by the revised front and rear sections.
Production of the Auris E150 ended in September 2012 .

At the Paris Motor Show in September 2012, the second generation of the Auris (E180) was presented, which is produced in the Burnaston plant in England and has been delivered since January 19, 2013. Toyota calls its new design line the "Keen Look" design .
This Auris is offered for the first time in addition to the only five-door hatchback sedan since July 13, 2013 also as a station wagon called Touring Sports .
Touring Sports
At the Paris Auto Show 2012, Toyota unveiled the world premiere of a station wagon version of the Auris that is 285 mm longer than the five-door hatchback model. It is also the first model in this segment to offer a full hybrid . The wheelbase remains exactly like the five-door model at 2600 mm, but the sideline runs a little differently. Due to the greater length, the trunk offers more cargo space. The rear bumper and tailgate have been given a new design, while the loading sill is 80 mm lower. The c w value is a little worse than that of the sedan and is 0.28; the frontal area, which is just as important for air resistance, has been reduced by the 55 mm lower height of this generation.
The engine range was carried over from the hatchback, including the 1.33L Dual VVT-i and 1.6L Valvematic, as well as the 1.4 D-4D diesel model. The hybrid is also available with a 1.8-liter VVT-i petrol engine and an electric motor, with a system output of 136 hp (100 kW), which means an acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in 11.2 seconds and a top speed of 175 km / h is sufficient.
Facelift
In June 2015, the Auris was given a facelift, which can be seen in the new family design. The revised vehicle went on sale on September 12 of the same year.
The revised model can be seen in the front: a wide, upwardly offset chrome clip connects the headlights, from which LEDs now shone. Below the more powerful bumper, the lower radiator grille now runs across the entire width of the front.
The rear has also been changed, which can be seen from the horizontally positioned reflectors and the chrome strip. The overhangs are a little longer at the front and back; both the station wagon (plus four centimeters) and the five-door (plus six centimeters) increased slightly in length.
There are also technical innovations: A completely new and 1.2-liter turbo direct injection engine with variable valve control and an exhaust manifold integrated in the cylinder head replaces the 1.6-liter gasoline engine in Germany. The two-liter turbo diesel was also discontinued and replaced by a BMW unit with a 1.6-liter displacement. According to Toyota, the smaller diesel (1.4D-4D) has been extensively revised and, with CO 2 emissions of 105 grams per kilometer, is the most economical diesel in the class up to 90 hp.
Technical specifications
When the second Auris was launched in January 2013, there were five different engines to choose from, all of which have been taken over from the predecessor and have only been slightly revised: two gasoline engines, a hybrid engine and two diesel engines. All engines meet the Euro 5 emissions standard.
The power is always transmitted via the front wheels. A 6-speed manual transmission is standard in all models, but a continuously variable automatic transmission is used in the hybrid model. The Multidrive S continuously variable transmission is optionally available for the more powerful 1.6-liter petrol engine. A continuously variable transmission with variable ratio (Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT)). The optimal gear ratio is automatically selected based on the load condition, the driving speed and the brake pedal pressure. In addition to the fully automatic operating mode, the transmission has a 7-stage sequential shift mode.

E210 (2018)
The third generation of the Auris based on Toyota's GA-C platform was presented at the 88th Geneva Motor Show in March 2018 . Even before the start of series production in Burnaston, it was announced that the model will also be offered again as Corolla in Europe . In Taiwan, the model continues to be marketed as the Auris.
Registration numbers
Between 2006 and 2019, a total of 189,196 Auris were newly registered in the Federal Republic of Germany . 2013 was the most successful sales year with 18,894 units. The hybrid version accounted for over 60 percent in 2017 and over 77 percent in 2018. After all, the perception threshold of 15,000 pieces was exceeded for a few years.
advertising
In Germany, the Toyota Auris was advertised with a hitherto unique advertising campaign : From February 23, 2007, 27 different motifs were stuck on over 200,000 billboards in 82 cities with over 100,000 inhabitants and also covered billboards in several parts. The largest poster campaign in Germany was developed by the Düsseldorf agencies BMZ + more and Zenithmedia. Many different motifs were presented and marginalized groups were taken into account.
The magazine Stern contained in the issue of September 8, 2010 only advertising for the Auris Hybrid from Toyota. This is the first time in the history of German magazines that a single advertising customer has advertised an entire issue.
The first 100 models were registered in the East Frisian district of Aurich (license plates AUR + IS as middle letters). These cars were used for advertising shoots, presentations and as test models for the media.
