The BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo (short: 3 Series GT ; internal series F34 ) is a hatchback sedan based on the 3 series (F30) that has been available since June 2013. With the 3 Series GT, BMW is adding a new body variant to the 3 Series.

The silhouette is similar to that of a coupé , but the dimensions of the body are significantly larger than the normal 3 Series , so that the 3 Series GT should combine the sedan and station wagon types . The starting price is 40,700 euros (as of November 2018, including 19 percent sales tax ).

Model history

The vehicle was formally shown to the public for the first time at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show ; the market launch took place in June 2013. The vehicle has been built at the BMW Dingolfing plant since March 2013 . The BMW 3 Series Gran Tourismo received a facelift in summer 2016 . In March 2019, at the annual press conference for 2019, BMW announced that the BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo is not likely to receive a successor model, as there is not much demand for it from customers and the manufacturer wants to reduce the complexity of the model range.

Furnishing

The vehicle is offered in four different equipment lines Advantage (since 2015), Luxury Line, M-Sport Package, Sport Line, and Modern Line (no longer available since 2015), which differ from one another in certain equipment features.

Rear view

body

As with the 5 Series GT, the side windows are frameless. For the first time, BMW is introducing an active retractable rear spoiler on this model, which extends at 110 km / h and retracts again at 70 km / h, but can also be operated electrically manually. With the help of the rear spoiler, the lift on the rear axle is reduced by up to 35%.

safety

The tested in 2012 notchback model BMW F30, which is the basis of the F34, was the Euro NCAP - Crash Test and the US NCAP each rated -Crashtest with five stars.

Engines

At the time of its market launch, the 3 Series Gran Turismo was available in five engine variants, each with a turbocharger: an in-line six-cylinder engine with a displacement of 3 liters and an in-line four-cylinder gasoline engine with a displacement of 2 liters, as well as a two-liter in-line four-cylinder diesel engine. The in-line four-cylinder engines had two power levels .

Since July 2013, the 325d GT has also been offered as a two-fold turbo-charged two-liter four-cylinder diesel engine. In March 2014, the 330d GT GT and the 335d GT were added two power levels of a three-liter in-line six-cylinder diesel engine.

Diesel engines from the B47 engine family have been used in the 318d GT and 320d GT since July 2015. At the same time, the maximum output of the engine variants was increased by 5 kW.

Engines from the B48 family have been used in four-cylinder gasoline engines since the 2016 facelift . The 328i GT was renamed to 330i GT and its maximum output increased by 5 kW. The model with the in-line six-cylinder petrol engine, now with an engine from the B58 engine family , was changed from 335i GT to 340i GT and the maximum output increased by 15 kW. For the diesel engines, an engine from the B47 family has been used in the 325d GT and the maximum output has been increased by 5 kW.
