Toponymy

The first mention of a place in the municipality comes from 1151 and refers to the hamlet of Vaux , which is mentioned as Locus Vallium , as a place in the valley and is just under 800 meters southeast of the village center, but already in the Jura . A Bernardus de Champegney is mentioned in 1211 , together with other mentions it seems certain that a family named themselves after this place. A mention of 1222 as Campaniacum allows clearer conclusions about the origin of the name, obviously it is the possession of a Campanius , together with the Gallo-Roman possessive suffix -acum , this Campaniacum , which became today's Champagnat, resulted directly .

history

Champagnat was known as the little Cuiseaux , was part of the Cuiseaux dominion and is closely linked to its history. Behind the church was a presbytery where the vicar lived. Courtépée attests to the most beautiful and widest view from the church portal . Once there were four mills and a brick factory.
