Location of the local community Gladbach in the district of Bernkastel-Wittlich | ||
Gladbach in der Eifel is a municipality in the district of Bernkastel-Wittlich in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Verbandsgemeinde Wittlich-Land .
history
The first documentary mention of the community goes back to property registers of the Echternach Abbey . At the end of the 8th century, a royal estate ("fisci") named Dreyse on the Salmana River was given to the abbey by the brother of Charlemagne , Karlmann . A few places in the vicinity also belonged to this estate.
In 895, on October 28th, King Zuentibold of Echternach Abbey confirmed their possessions at the request of Archbishop Ratbold of Trier . In this register of properties, Gladbach is also listed.
Gladbach belonged to the duchy of Luxembourg . The place was assigned to the rulership of Bruch . In Gladbach and in the nearby Bruch , the Echternach Abbey, in contrast to the development in Dreis , could not expand its sovereignty , as the Salm formed the border between the Duchy of Luxembourg and the Electoral State of Trier . Gladbach and Bruch were on the right side of the Salm and therefore in Luxembourgish.
From 1794 Gladbach was under French rule and from 1795 to 1814 it belonged to the canton of Dudeldorf in the Département des Forêts (forest department). In 1815 the region was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna . Since 1946 the place has been part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate .
