Irina Vladimirovna Teterina ( Russian Ирина Владимировна Тетерина ; born January 7, 1958 ) is a former Soviet rower and three-time world champion in the eight .

Athletic career

The 1.84 m tall Irina Teterina won her first world title in 1981 in Munich . Only four years later she was back in the Soviet eighth and won two more titles in Hazewinkel in 1985 and in Nottingham in 1986 . At the 1987 World Championships in Copenhagen, the Romanians won ahead of the US rowers, Teterina won the bronze medal with the Soviet eighth.

At the Olympic Games in Seoul in 1988 , Irina Teterina competed in a foursome with a helmsman . Reda Ribinskaitė , Olena Teroschyna , Irina Teterina, Marina Suprun and helmsman Walentina Chochlowa took second place behind the Romanians in the preliminary run. With a third place in the repechage they missed the A final, with a third place in the B final the Soviet rowers took ninth place in the overall standings.
