Luemschwiller (German Lümschweiler ) is a French commune with 777 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Haut-Rhin department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Alsace ). It belongs to the arrondissement Altkirch , the canton Altkirch and the municipality association Sundgau .

geography

The municipality of Luemschwiller is located in the Sundgau , south of Mulhouse and northeast of Altkirch in a side valley of the Ill river .

Neighboring communities of Luemschwiller are Zillisheim in the north, Steinbrunn-le-Haut in the east, Obermorschwiller in the south-east, Emlingen in the south, Walheim in the south-west, Tagolsheim in the west and Illfurth in the north-west.

history

In the 12th century the place was called Limmiswiler . He was knowingly subordinate to the lords of Altkirch , later of Ferrette and from 1324 to 1648 the Habsburgs . A palace and a synagogue were built under the Reinach family .
