The Primera División 2015/16 (officially Liga BBVA ) was the 85th season of the top Spanish division in men's football . It started on August 21, 2015 and ended on May 15, 2016.

FC Barcelona became Spanish champions for the 24th time.

Before the season

• The 23-time champions FC Barcelona started the race as defending champions . Last year's runner-up was Real Madrid . Because of the forced relegation of FC Elche , the sporting relegated SD Eibar remained a member of the Primera División for the 2015/16 season.
• Moved up from the Segunda División are Betis Sevilla , Sporting Gijon and UD Las Palmas .
