Cityscape
Montignac extends on both sides of the Vézère. On the right is the medieval part with the tower and surrounding wall, the last remains of the fortress of the Counts of Périgord . The facility was damaged several times by war and was finally destroyed in 1825. The city was protected by a wall with three city gates, one of which led to the bridge over the Vézère. This bridge was burned by the Protestants in 1580 and damaged by floods after the reconstruction in 1620. The current bridge structure, built between 1766 and 1777, replaced the ferry that had been in use for 150 years.
