Nougaroulet ( Gaskognisch Nogarolet ) is a French commune with 375 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Gers department in the Occitanie region ; it belongs to the arrondissement Auch and the municipality of Grand Auch Cœur de Gascogne . Its inhabitants call themselves nougarouletois / nougarouletoises .
geography
Nougaroulet is located around 13 kilometers northeast of the city. Also in the east of the Gers department. The municipality consists of the settlements Coignax, Laboubée and Nougaroulet as well as numerous hamlets and individual farms. In terms of traffic, the municipality is located on the D256 a few kilometers north of the N124 and a few kilometers east of the N21 .
history
A castle was built in the Middle Ages. The fortified town of Nougaroulet was nearby. The fortifications were razed in 1624 on the instructions of Cardinal Richelieu. In the Middle Ages, the place was within the county of Haut-Armagnac, which was part of the province of Gascogne. The community belonged to the District of Auch from 1793 to 1801. In addition, nougaroulet was part of the canton of Puycasquier from 1793 to 1801. From 1801 to 1973 it was in the canton of Auch-Nord. Then from 1973 to 2015 within the canton of Auch-Nord-Est . The municipality has been assigned to the arrondissement Auch since 1801. In 1821 the previous municipalities of Coignax (1821: 124 inhabitants) and La Boubée (1821: 108 inhabitants) came to nougaroulet.
