Lombez ( Gascon : Lombers ) is a small town and a municipality with 2,134 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the south of the Gers department in the former county of Comminges in the Gascogne cultural landscape in southwest France .
Location and climate
Lombez is located on the Save River about 38 km (driving distance) southeast of the city of Auch and a good 55 km southwest of Toulouse at an altitude of about 165 m . The climate is temperate to warm; Rain (approx. 730 mm / year) falls over the year.

The urban population grew significantly towards the end of the 20th and the beginning of the 21st century, mainly because of the immigration of families from the rural areas in the area ( rural exodus ).

The place is the mercantile, craft and service center of a large number of small villages in the area.
history
Historically, the place has been identified as a Lombarium or Lomberium , the place has had its current name since the rule of the Counts of Comminges . Lombez was the capital of the former province of Savès .
The Benedictine Notre-Dame Abbey was built here in 793 . Pope John XXII. established the Lombez diocese in 1317 , which existed until 1790 and 1801 respectively. In 1622 Catholic troops from Duke César de Bourbon set the city on fire.
