history
The foundation of the village goes back to the end of the fourth century. From the 10th century on, Augnax was the scene of armed conflict. At that time there was a feudal castle, of which nothing is left today. The parish was mentioned in the scriptures under the name Onhax in 1276. She was subordinate to the Viscount of Fézensaguet . The Count of Fézensac was the last seigneur before the French Revolution .
There was a brotherhood of the Holy Spirit in the church, which was renewed in 1668 and which gathered numerous parishioners by the end of the 20th century.
A source dedicated to Exuperius of Toulouse dates back to the time the village was founded. She is often visited to use her water to relieve eye ailments. Another spring, called Hount bastido , was built in 1815 by the Count of Fézensac. Since it is very productive, it still exists today.
In 1870 the mayor had the school and mayor's office built and the church rebuilt, which represent the core of today's village.
Population development
After the beginning of the records, the population rose to a high of around 245 at the beginning of the 19th century. In the following period, the size of the community fell to around 55 inhabitants by the 1980s, before the beginning of the 21st century set a growth phase that continues to this day.
