history
A find in Gausselin bears witness to human settlement as early as Roman times. A castle had existed since the 10th century and was first mentioned by name in 1130. At that time the place belonged to the rule La Hitte. The castle was badly damaged in the wars of religion. One of its towers will later become the church's bell tower. In 1737 a new castle was built elsewhere. In the Middle Ages, the place was within the county of Haut-Armagnac, which was part of the province of Gascogne. The community belonged to the District of Auch from 1793 to 1801. In addition, Lahitte was part of the Canton of Auch from 1793 to 1801. From 1801 to 1973 it was in the canton of Auch-Nord. Then from 1973 to 2015 within the canton of Auch-Nord-Est . The municipality has been assigned to the arrondissement Auch since 1801.
