Bezolles ( Gaskognisch Besòlas ) is a French commune with 139 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Gers department in the Occitanie region (until 2015 Midi-Pyrénées ); it belongs to the arrondissement Auch and to the community association Artagnan de Fezensac . The residents call themselves Bezollais / Bezollaises .

geography

Bezolles is located around 27 kilometers northwest of Auch in the center of the Gers department. The community consists of scattered settlements and individual farmsteads. There are numerous vineyards. The river Bèze crosses the municipality in a northerly direction and in parts forms the southern municipal boundary.

Neighboring municipalities are Beaucaire in the north and northeast, Rozès in the southeast and south, Vic-Fezensac in the southwest, Justian and Roques in the west and Lagardère in the northwest.

history

In the Middle Ages, Bezolles was located in the Armagnac region within the historic Gascony landscape and shared its fate. Bezolles was part of the District Condom from 1793 to 1801. From 1801 to 2015 the municipality was assigned to the Arrondissement Condom and from 1793 to 2015 it belonged to the canton of Valence-sur-Baïse (originally called canton Valence).

Population development

The population development is typical for a French rural community. The developments between 1793 and 1841 are normal with strong growth and the subsequent strong rural exodus. Since 2006 the population has stabilized at around 140 people.

traffic

The community is far away from national traffic routes and has no rail or bus connections. The most important regional traffic routes are the D930 a few kilometers to the east and the N124 with a connection in Vic-Fezensac.
