Bazian Castle |
Bazian ( Gascon Basian ) is a French commune of 112 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Gers in the region Occitania . It belongs to the arrondissement of Auch and the canton of Fezensac . Bazian is also a member of the Artagnan de Fezensac community association founded in 2003 . The inhabitants are called Bazianais (es) .
location
Bazian is located on the river La Mouliaque on a hill. The municipality includes the village of Bazian, the Weilen Antin and numerous small settlements and farmsteads. The place is about 21 kilometers west-northwest of the small town Auch in the center of the Gers department. The city of Tarbes is around 52 kilometers south-south-west.
history
The area has been inhabited since Gallo-Roman times. The remains of a villa from this period have been found around 300 meters from today's village. Later a settlement was built south of today's place, of which there are no more traces. The castle was built first in the Middle Ages. The place was then built around the castle. The community belonged to the district of Auch from 1793 to 1801. It has been part of the Auch arrondissement since 1801. From 1793 to 2015 the municipality belonged to the canton of Vic-Fezensac (sometimes called Vic-sur-Losse). The previously independent municipality of Saint-Yors was incorporated in 1839.
