Cadeillan is a French commune with 61 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Gers department in the Occitanie region (before 2016: Midi-Pyrénées ). The municipality belongs to the arrondissement Auch and the canton Val de Save (until 2015: canton Lombez ).

The inhabitants are called Cadeillanais and Cadeillanaises .

geography

Cadeillan is located about 32 kilometers south-east of Auch in the Région naturelle Comminges on the south-eastern border with the neighboring Haute-Garonne department .

Cadeillan lies in the catchment area of the Garonne River .

The Save is a tributary of the Garonne and forms the natural border with the neighboring municipality of Espaon to the east. Tributaries of the Sava cross the territory of the municipality, the Ruisseau de la Peyrère and the Gesse , together with their tributary, the Ruisseau du Merdet. The Cadeillan is also irrigated by the Bourdassen, a tributary of the Naude.

In Cadeillan there was a Commandery of the Templars , which subsequently fell to the Hospitallers .

Population development

After records began, the population rose to a high of around 230 by the middle of the 19th century. In the period that followed, the size of the community fell, with intermittent recovery phases, to its lowest level of around 45 in the 1970s, before a phase of growth until the first decade of the 21st century. In recent times, however, the number of residents has stagnated again.

Attractions

  • The parish church of Saint-Pierre-Saint-Paul houses a tabernacle from the 18th century. The crosses of the Knights Templar and the Order of Malta are painted on the wooden ceiling above the choir . Pierre-de-Carsalade-du-Pont, Seigneur of Cadeillan and owner of a house in the hamlet of Le Pont, was Knight of the Ordre royal et militaire de Saint-Louis . His grave is in the church.

Bill Coleman , born on August 4, 1904 in Paris , Kentucky , died on August 24, 1981 in Toulouse , was an American musician. He lived with his wife Lily in Cadeillan, where they were also buried.
