Gazax-et-Baccarisse ( Gascon : Gasatz e Vacarissa ) is a French commune with a population of 80 (as at 1st January 2017) in the department of Gers in the region Occitania . It belongs to the Arrondissement Auch and to the Artagnan de Fezensac community association founded in 2003 . The inhabitants call themselves Gazacais .
geography
Gazax-et-Baccarisse is located in the Armagnac region at the sources of the Ribérette and Douze rivers , about 40 kilometers west of Auch and 43 kilometers north of Tarbes . The 9.45 km² large community consists of several small villages, hamlets and individual farms. The district of Gazax with the Mairie and the village church is relatively central. Other villages in the municipality are Tolou, Tulipe, La Croix de Rivière, Banon, Castère, Guillanne, Sarton, Rosemont, Lamoulère, Louiset, La Bordeneuve, Capcru and Saint-Mesplin . In addition, there are the hamlets of Herré, Le Campané, Simounot, Coujot and Ricau in the Baccarisse district , which was an independent municipality from 1790 to 1794. The terrain in the municipality is characterized by gentle hills and an alternation of fields, meadows and small forests. Wine is grown around the hamlet of Capcru . There are several small reservoirs in the municipality, which are used for flood protection and irrigation of the fields. Gazax-et-Baccarisse is bordered by the neighboring communities of Peyrusse-Grande in the northeast, Bassoues in the east, Armous-et-Cau in the south, Louslitges in the west and Peyrusse-Vieille in the northwest.

The vines in Gazac-et-Baccarisse are part of the wine-growing region Côtes de Saint-Mont in the south of the wine region of Sud-Ouest . The vines have the status of a Vin Délimité de Qualité Supérieure , to which vineyards in 48 municipalities are approved.
Gazax-et-Baccarisse is located away from the nationally important traffic flows. Several highways connect Gazax-et-Baccarisse with the neighboring communities. In the city of Aire-sur-l'Adour , 45 kilometers northwest, there is a connection to the A65 autoroute . The train station in Auch , 40 kilometers away, offers connections to Toulouse , Eauze , Vic-en-Bigorre and Bon-Encontre .
