Peter Nöcker (born April 30, 1928 in Düsseldorf ; † October 7, 2007 in Meerbusch ) was a German racing driver from Düsseldorf. He became known as a team colleague of Peter Lindner . Peter Nöcker drove sports cars from Porsche , Jaguar and Ferrari , among others .

Career

His first successes were with a Porsche 550 Spyder . He came to the Ferrari 250 GT via the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL (which he drove successfully in circuit races in particular) . In June 1961, Wiesbaden's Peter Lindner brought the successful and talented driver to his Jaguar racing team. Up until Lindner's fatal accident at the 1000 km race in Paris in 1964, the two contested practically all major long-distance touring car races. The “Peter-Peter” crew won the international 6-hour race for touring cars (1961, 1962 and 1963) just three times in a row with their dreaded “WI-PL 1”, and the team that worked together in an exemplary manner took overall victory in the international one 12-hour race in 1963 and several good foreign placements.

Seldom has the German circuit championship for touring cars been fought so hard and doggedly as in the 1963 season: Although Nöcker won 8 circuit races, the total of 9 races could not bring a decision. With the same number of points, the championship title fell to both Düsseldorf's Peter Nöcker ( 3.8-liter Jaguar ) and Wiesbaden's Alfa driver Hans Braun.

In addition, Peter Nöcker was seen at the top of the European Championship in 1963: He was also successful in 5 races with the 3.8 liter Jaguar and was the winner of the European Cup for Touring Cars ("Challenge Europeen de Courses des Tourismes" ). He and Peter Lindner won the first event of this newly created European Touring Car Challenge with the 6-hour race at the Nürburgring . At Brands Hatch, the two finished second in the overall classification (the winners M. Salmon / P. Sutcliffe were subsequently disqualified), Peter Nöcker was the winner of his class in Zolder, won the Timmelsjoch mountain race and reached Budapest together with Peter Lindner another class win. Although this championship was only announced “unofficially” in 1963, the FIA decided that this championship was held “officially” from 1964 onwards. The roots of the European Touring Car Championship ( FIA ETCC) go back to June 16, 1963. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the ETCC, the FIA donated the Peter Nöcker Trophy in memory of the first winner of the European Touring Car Cup . The “Peter Nöcker Trophy” is awarded to the driver with the most victories at the end of the season. In 2013, Kevin Krammes was the first driver to be recognized as he won 7 out of 10 races in his class.

The 1963 season was undoubtedly a very successful one for Peter Nöcker, as he achieved 17 wins and a second place in a total of 20 starts; he fell out twice, each time in the lead. Despite the large number of touring car appointments , Peter Nöcker still had the time to do a few GT races with his own Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta SWB (chassis no. 1917GT) and with the Jaguar E-Type Lightweight provided by Peter Lindner (chassis no. S850662) to drive. He set no fewer than three course records with the Jaguar E in 1963 (Avus, Norisring and Innsbruck) and with the Ferrari Berlinetta (registration D-JT 183) he improved his own lap times twice in Trier. Peter Nöcker was particularly proud that he had never had a racing accident. In 1963 he sold his Ferrari to Erich Bitter .

In 1964, Peter Lindner and Peter Nöcker again took part in the 1000 km race at the Nürburgring. With their Jaguar E-Type Lightweight, however, they had to end the race with transmission problems on lap 17.

In addition to his involvement in motorsport, Peter Nöcker still had time for his hobby: He was considered a passionate collector of old carpets with a rarity. In 1968 he ended his racing career.
