history
The history of Sankt Annen as an independent settlement began in 1500 with the construction of the Sankt-Annen-Kirche. Three families from the gender Association of Russian Belling men in the eastern parish Lunden had vowed to build a chapel if them the embankment of a new polder , the Bosbüttelerkoogs succeeded. Until 1499 the children were baptized in the Schwabstedter Church, a journey with an uncertain outcome given the current of the Eider, the changing tides and any storm surges that might occur .
The Dithmarschers, as skilful calculators, had Pope Julius II sent to Rome in order to successfully acquire a bull stating that all supporters of church building would be granted a centenary indulgence . When the church was built so successfully, there were conflicts with the Lunden parish council , which spoke out against a new church and the loss of power. The builders of Sankt Annen sent back to Pope Julius II and were successfully granted the right of patronage over the church. The settlement around Sankt Annen never gained full independence from Lunden. Church building belongs to a later phase in the history of the Dithmarsch settlement, when new church buildings only had a localized influence and did not become the focal point of spatially extended parishes as before.
Sankt Annen was the residence of the “peasant general” Claus Heim , who was an important leader of the rural people's movement in the late 1920s . He carried out several bomb attacks on representatives of the Weimar Republic and, after his arrest, became a symbol of peasant resistance to democracy.
On April 1, 1934, the parish Lunden was dissolved. All of their village communities, village communities and peasant communities became independent communities / rural communities, including Sankt Annen-Damm, Sankt Annen-Neufeld and Sankt Annen-Österfeld. On July 1, 1936, these were merged to form the Sankt Annen community.
