Voss

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Voss is the word for fox in the Low or Low German language .

Voss or Voss is a North German family name or Lower Saxony surname. Rarer variants in Germany are in the neighboring regions of Fooss , Foss , Foss , Vohs and to the west of the Dutch area Vossen and Vos . Outside of the Low German-speaking area, Voss does not necessarily have to mean "fox", because in the Cologne area the fox is called the foot and the foot is called the fossil .

In medieval documents, the surname is often only written Vos . If the name was translated into Latin in these documents , one often comes across Vulpes or Wlpes for the name Voss .
