The list of mountains of the United States shows the location of mountains in a given state. The highest mountains in the U.S. are overwhelmingly located in four states: Alaska (home of 19 of the 20 highest peaks in the U.S.), California, Colorado (home of the 16 of the 50 highest peaks in the U.S.), and Washington. See the fourteener article for a ranked list of the independent peaks over 14,000 feet (4,300 m) in the U.S.
