The Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department [ ˌalpdəotpʀɔvɑs ] is the French department with the atomic number 04. It is in the southeast of the country in the region Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur .

geography

The Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department borders on the Alpes-Maritimes , Var , Vaucluse , Drôme and Hautes-Alpes departments as well as Italy .

history

The department was formed on March 4, 1790 from part of Provence .

Until 1970 the department was called Basses-Alpes , in German as Niederalpen or Nieder-Alpen .

politics

The first round of the 2017 French presidential election took place on April 23, 2017 . The turnout in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department was 80.79%. A total of 102,257 eligible voters cast their votes . Of the 99,713 valid votes, 24,463 elected the then chairman of the right-wing populist Front National , Marine Le Pen . 22,448 votes were cast for the presidential candidate of the La France insoumise party, Jean-Luc Mélenchon . The former Minister of Economic Affairs under President François Hollande, Emmanuel Macron , received 19,960 votes . François Fillon , who was Prime Minister of France from 2007 to 2012 , received 18,442 votes. 4983 votes received the French politician of the Socialist Party , Benoit Hamon . 4,860 voters elected the conservative-Gaullist politician Nicolas Dupont-Aignan . The politician Jean Lassalle received 1721 votes. The anti-capitalist politician and trade unionist Philippe Poutou received 1,178 votes . The President of the  Union Populaire Républicaine , François Asselineau , received 932 votes. Nathalie Arthaud , spokeswoman for the Trotskyist French left party Lutte Ouvrière , received 521 votes. The politician Jacques Cheminade received 205 votes.
