Election 1965

The 1965 federal election actually took place on September 19, 1965. In constituency 135 Obertaunuskreis was only elected on October 3, 1965 because of the death of a constituency applicant

The candidate of the splinter party Action Group Independent German Erich Henz died. The subsequent election led to a special situation. Kurt Gscheidle and Hans-Werner Staratzke already had their mandates on the state list. Accordingly, the CDU advertised that with one vote for Walther Leisler Kiep, the district in Bonn would be represented by three members instead of two. Chancellor Ludwig Erhard himself had an election campaign appearance in the constituency, the SPD parliamentary group held a public parliamentary group meeting in the Kurhaus Bad Homburg . Kiep managed to increase the CDU's share of the vote by 10% and win the mandate for the Union for the first time.
