In the Middle Ages the place was run for centuries by the Trier Abbey of St. Maximin , to whose property Fell belonged ( County Fell ). The Maximiner also built a castle , of which only the castle gate, parts of the wall and a castle cellar are preserved today. Historically, the districts of Oberfell and Niederfell are distinguished. The former Fronhof of the monastery indicates the connection to St. Maximin.
