The horn as a solo instrument mixes well with the sound of strings and woodwinds; here a historical horn amidst other instruments from the 19th century.

This list includes important compositions in which the horn is used as a solo instrument. Under Horn is here, unless other horn types are called the French horn or its variants natural horn and Viennese horn understood. To differentiate the instruments

Baroque

In the Baroque era, the French horn also gives concerts once alongside a post horn . The picture dates from the 18th century.
