Sotto il Monte Giovanni XXIII (short name Sotto il Monte ; in German about "below the mountain") is a municipality in northern Italy , in the province of Bergamo and the region of Lombardy .

The community has 4,497 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It owes its official nickname (like the giant Pio X ) to its most famous son, Angelo Roncalli, who later became Pope John XXIII. ( Italian Giovanni XXIII ).

Parish partnership

Since 2009 there has been a partnership with the Bavarian community Marktl am Inn, birthplace of Pope Benedict XVI.
