Hemme is a municipality in the Dithmarschen district in Schleswig-Holstein . In addition to the eponymous place Hemme, Hemmerfeld, Hemmerwurth and Zennhusen are located in the municipality.

history

The St. Marien Church from the 14th century is a Gothic church made of brick masonry. Hemme was first mentioned in a document in 1323 as an independent parish . The church hall and through a flat round chancel arch divided tripartite choir are on a mound . Much of the interior design dates from the 16th and 17th centuries. The depiction of 121 scenes from the Bible, which begin as wall paneling along the church, is unique. They were created around 1650, begin with the creation of Adam and end with a depiction of Jesus Christ as Savior of the world. The wooden bell tower belonging to the church has existed since the church was founded.

On April 1, 1934, the parish land parish Hemme was dissolved. It was transferred to the municipality of Hemme without any regional changes.

Until 1965 the parishes of Hemme and Karolinenkoog formed the parish of Hemme.

The model for the municipal coat of arms was the historic seal of the Hemme parish from the 13th century, which was only slightly changed. The local church, which emerged from an older chapel, was consecrated to “our dear women”. The Virgin Mary was the patron saint . The municipality is located directly on federal highway 5 , which forms the western connection between the A23 and the Danish border. In addition to the A7 , it is the main connection route to the North Frisian Islands and the North Sea spas . As a result, there is a lot of traffic here, especially during the holiday season.

Hemme owned a rail link to Heide from August 22, 1877 to 1958 . The station was located on Dorfstrasse west of the B 5 underpass.

In Hemme there are some craft businesses and service companies, including an embroidery business, a business for the sale and repair of agricultural and construction machinery as well as forest and gardening equipment, a painter, a heating and plumbing company, a gas station with a shop, and another gas station with card operation and a motorhome service.

Clubs and organizations

The two organizations in Hemme with the largest number of members are the SV Hemme sports club and the Hemme volunteer fire brigade. Both shape village life through regular events. There is also the shooting club (SSC Hemme), a local club of the DRK and a rifle guild.
