Previous model BMW E70
successor BMW G05

The BMW F15 is a sport utility vehicle from the German car manufacturer BMW . It is the third generation of the BMW X5 and thus the successor to the BMW E70 . The model was presented to the public on May 30, 2013 and was made accessible for the first time at the International Motor Show in September 2013 in Frankfurt am Main .

Also at the IAA 2013, BMW presented the Concept X5 eDrive, a concept vehicle based on the F15 with a plug-in hybrid drive. The production vehicle X5 xDrive40e , which was presented at Auto Shanghai 2015, has been on sale since August 2015.

At the end of 2018, the BMW G05 then replaced the third generation of the X5.

technology

BMW responded to criticism of the SUV by making improved aerodynamics and economical engines development goals. The results were the air outlets in the fenders ("Air breather", "Air curtains"), the use of a speed-controlled fuel pump and tires with lower rolling resistance . In addition, with the sDrive 25d , a four-cylinder diesel engine without all-wheel drive was offered, which undercut 150 g / km in CO 2 emissions (in the measurement cycle). This was further improved in autumn 2015 with the B47 engine , see technical data.

The BMW X5 was equipped with the BMW assistance systems. In the interior, the display of the multimedia system is free-standing in a central position. The iDrive system has been revised. With the so-called driving experience switch, different driving modes can be set, which in particular influence the gas supply, the gearshift and the steering. With the optional adaptive chassis (including Adaptive Drive roll stabilization ), the dampers can be adjusted using the Driving Experience Control.

production

The BMW F15, like its predecessor the BMW E70, is produced by the BMW US Manufacturing Company in Greer (South Carolina) . Almost 30% of the vehicles are sold in the USA, 70% are exported to over 140 countries. The X3, X4 and X6 models are also produced there.

Technical specifications

The cheapest c w value is 0.31 for the 30d; the frontal area of the X5 is 2.84 m² (exemplary comparison: the frontal area of the VW Golf VII is 2.19 m².)

The X5 is available with its own gasoline or diesel engine. All models are available with xDrive all-wheel drive and with the eight-speed automatic as standard.
